What is AI or Artificial Intelligence?
The word “Artificial Intelligence” might sound a little new and fascinating word but believe me we have been using its applications for decades.
Artificial Intelligence is the ultimate future of Technology and the World.
To define Artificial Intelligence, it is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. These processes include learning, reasoning (the most important of all) and self-correction.
Why is AI a necessity?
We are growing at a large rate, let it be in terms of population, tasks, etc. An increase in scale also decreases efficiency due to the lack of a skilled workforce and competition in the market. Thus it’s the AI that’s helping us get off the hook. We are one of the most privileged generations of all as we are living in an era full of technology advancements. Gone are the days when almost each and every task had to be accomplished manually. AI in the forthcoming years is going to change almost every aspect of living. It has already made its way into many of our homes in the form of either Alexa, Cortona, Siri or even Spotify (it uses AI and Big Data to enhance the user experience).
CHINA and Artificial Intelligence
“Data is the new oil, so China is the new Saudi Arabia,” Kai-Fu Lee, a venture capitalist said to CNBC. China’s success in AI has been partly backed up by the Chinese Government’s overall investment in scientific research in its universities. Over the past decade, government spending on R & D sector has grown by double digits on average every year. Funding for the R & D sector continues to be the major priority. According to the reports by The Boston Consulting Group (popularly known as BCG), 83% of the Chinese companies are active players in the field of AI, leading all seven nations.
NOTE: BCG defines active players as those companies making noticeable progress in unlocking the value of AI in two dimensions.
Introduction of AI Course into the Curriculum
Education in schools is like a Binary system.
Either one ‘picks’ or ‘lifts’. Picking defines what you eventually become. Lifting has always been a drag, and life becomes a long one.
While the whole world is still focusing on computer literacy for all school students, China, on the other hand, is going to be at least 10 steps ahead of them now.
China in the recent past unveiled its plan to become the world’s leader in AI challenging the current World Leader United States. In order to achieve it, the government released a roadmap for the coming years.
The Chinese government has introduced a textbook titled “Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence” in the curriculum of the major schools of the country. The course has been introduced in elementary schools as well. It has already been taught at major schools of Shanghai as a part of the pilot program.
